No… It’s a real concept that really debuted and it has a turbocharged 2.0 liter boxer engine that they run in the Super GT series!
What else does the BRZ STI Performance Concept have?
It has all the aerodynamic bits you would love to see in a factory STI edition. Stiffer chassis and suspension. Bigger Brembo brakes. A sweet looking high-tech interior with Recaro bucket seats. The engine is estimated to have 300 or more horsepower with an STI tuned intake and exhaust! Did I mention the “STI” badging? No? Well, it has all the badges you need to prove it’s an STI model.
You might be thinking, “Just what we needed, another great looking concept that will never see production, thanks for nothing Subaru!”, but you’re wrong! Why?
You’re wrong, because this is a starting point and a major announcement for the expansion of STI tuned vehicles for the US market. In Japan they have “S” models and even “tS” (tuned by STI) models, that we do not get here in the States. That’s all about to change with this new announcement at the 2015 New York International Auto Show. In the press release they state, “In the future, further models tuned by STI will be available in the US. These cars could feature more extensive modifications from the factory than previously offered, such as suspension, performance, braking, chassis and aerodynamic upgrades.”
This is great news! Imagine a “Legacy STI” or a “Forrester tS”?! This makes sense too, because what else is Subaru going to do with all the money they are making from selling every single car they produce and breaking sales record month after month? Why not build super cool performance versions and charge more money on cars they are forecasted to sell? The specific nomenclature of these future models has yet to be determined, but I think we can assume the news will make every Subaru enthusiasts day.
