The Subaru BRZ “concept” has been unveiled at auto shows across the nation and the world! Now it is finally time for the real thing, but you still have to wait…
Subaru has planned three different models for the Japanese market. There is the RA, the R and the S models. The RA has black mirrors, no fog lights, steel wheels, cloth seats, no push button start, no heated seats, no radio, and that sounds like the perfect drivers car to us. This RA model is geared toward the ultimate tuner or maybe someone on a budget. The R model is designed to be the well-blanced, comfort and fuel efficient middle brother. While the S is the fully optioned model, with upgraded wheels and fog lights, interior materials for the seats and door panels, aluminum trim pieces and pedals, toggle like interior controls with NAV and auto climate control. The S has all of the features necessary for driving and comfort. It seems that there is an Aero Package optional on all BRZ’s, to create the ultimate low center of gravity sports coupe. Interior changes are the dominate difference between the models, as the power and performance should relatively be the equal. We are hoping that the lighter RA model will join the Limited and Premium models already confirmed for the U.S. market, including the aero package.
The model variations for Japan is great news, but there were a few more exciting bits of information released. Sales start March 28 in Japan. Subaru is planning on selling 450 units per month for the first year. Subaru BRZ MPG was also released; 13 km/l, which is 36.72 UK mpg and 30.58 US mpg. (conversion by convert unit.com). The Subaru BRZ’s 30.58 miles per gallon fuel consumptions specification is what we were expecting, but it sounds better when official. Last item we could officially collect, color names:
Differences that we can currently find between the U.S. and the JDM models are minor. Wheel choice, front foglight arrangement (U.S. spec has additional light), tail light reflector (U.S. spec has added red reflector), and some interior options are standard on the U.S. spec, NAV, Bluetooth and HID headlights. Expect the colors, general interior / exterior looks, and performance / technical specifications to remain the same.
